The Enable-IT 820WP – PoE and Extended Ethernet Unit has a distance restriction of 800ft or 244m over 4-pair Category 5e or higher spec rated wiring. Two 820WP units can be daisy chained to reach up to 1,600ft or 488m. For the 820WP daisy chain use an additional 820WP unit.
We highly recommend a quick test to ensure the working order of your 820WP PoE Extender unit.
Step 1 – Using one of the provided Ethernet patch cords, connect the 820WP PRO via the LAN and POE in port to your source 10MB Ethernet LAN connection. Next use another Ethernet patch cord to attach a LAN device to the Interlink out port on the 820WP.
Step 2 – Next apply power through the 5V power adapter to the 820WP PRO. The LED indicators on the 820 PRO will provide visual operational status. LED indicators will provide visual operational status of the 820 Pro unit.
820WP LAN & PoE IN – Slow yellow LED flashing indicates LAN connectivity. Flickering yellow LED indicates LAN traffic.
820WP Interlink Out 5v Power – Solid green LED indicates that the 820WP PRO is powered on and Running.
LED indicators will provide visual operational status of the 820 Weatherproof PoE Extender units.
CPE Sync / Act – Indicates remote LAN is visible and connected with activity.
If this LED fails to light, the wiring between the 820WP PoE Extender and your end device is incorrect, the wiring may have a short or the distance from the 820 Weatherproof PoE Extender unit through the your remote LAN device exceeds 900ft or 244m.
LAN Act – Indicates local LAN is visible and connected with activity.
Power – should be lit when 5v adapter is connected and powered
This confirms proper operation of the units.

The backbone cable between the CO – RJ-45 LINE ports uses –
2-pairs of wiring for data and voice use only (RJ-45 pins 1,2,3 & 6) or 4-pairs of wiring for data, voice and PoE (All RJ-45 pins)
Two RJ-45 blank male heads have been provided in the kit for use in connecting your wiring to the 820 Weatherproof Extender LINE ports. The RJ-45 Pins are straight through just like an Ethernet patch cord.
DO NOT INSERT THE BLANK RJ-45 HEADS PROVIDED INTO ANY PORTS BEFORE CRIMPING
– OTHERWISE YOU WILL RENDER THE PORT USELESS – BENT PINS
Will the 820WP PoE Extender work with any manufacturer’s wireless AP?
Yes, if using a IEEE 802.3af standard PoE injector or PoE midspan switch. Cisco PoE switches do not work as they do not startup in a 802.3af mode by default and can’t configure itself for Long Reach Ethernet.
We recommend using a standalone PoE Injector when in doubt.
IEEE 802.3af standard passes power over Ethernet on pins 4,5,7 & 8. Using a straight through CAT5e cable for PoE – Pins 1,2,3, and 6 carry the data while pins 4,5,7, and 8 carry power PoE injectors can come in(24,48 and 56V) variations. PoE equipment on the other hand can be any voltage up to 56V. Each PoE Equipment mfg. has a built in regulator that takes whatever voltage coming out of a PoE/Data cable and conditions it down to what it needs.
Voltage drops over distance using wires. At 200M, you lose maybe 4 or 6 volts. At 48VDC, that leaves you with 42 volts. You can determine the amount of voltage drop over a distance by finding the resistance of the cable for a specific temperature (given in ohms/1000ft) from the cable manufacturer or electrical wholesaler. If you know the largest amount of current that will flow in the cable, then use the formula: Vdrop = Current X Distance (Ft) X 2 X Ohms per 1000Ft.
As a rule of thumb you will loose 6V per every 100? – 200ft? of wiring, depending on the gauge. Lower power also means more amperage means more heat and perhaps issues with the 24 gauge wires in CAT5. You may need to use 18 gauge wiring. For all intensive purposes anything greater than 400ft? use a 48V POE.
