Wind farms have become a pivotal source of renewable green energy, harnessing the power of wind to generate clean electricity on a large scale in areas on the planet where wind is a more constant force for now.<\/p>

These HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) are the most expensive to install and operate, so ensuring the proper maintenance and monitoring\/control is critical to ensure these farms operate efficiently and safely. Typically individual wind turbines are all blind machines as the master control center is responsible for managing and controlling individual wind turbines that are turned on or off according to demand for electricity.<\/p>

The controls for Wind Farm turbines has relied on low bandwidth SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) protocols up to now and the biggest challenge is the distance barrier of traditional networks. The costs associated with network downtime in these environments can be staggering, often ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 per hour.

This article explores the importance of reliable data networking in wind farms, the challenges they face, and the solutions available, including the use of Ethernet extenders.<\/p>

Enable-IT Ethernet Extenders have easily solved this challenge for the Wind Energy industry and has been implemented in many farms worldwide.<\/strong><\/p>

A newer data sharing infrastructure protocol has been established – (IEC) 61400-25 standard that will still leverage the Ethernet Data networks, but now will allow for the sharing between individual wind turbines creating smart-wind power farms (Smart-WPFs).<\/p>

Smart-WPF wind turbines will communicate directly and share sensing data in order to maximize power generation, WPF availability, and turbine efficiency. \u00a0Some installations are leveraging insecure and unstable Wireless technology for this communications – until they are hacked or severely disrupted by the increasing energy blasts from our star in the form of CME’s, Proton storms, Solar flares, ground generated lightning and collapsing protection of our Van Allen magnetic shield.

The expectations of having a Carrington Sized event in the next Solar Cycle maximum (6 to 9 years away) that will wipe out most all earth based electronics and set us back into a Stone Age only gives us so much time to enjoy these benefits – but at least it could be a termination for AI and autonomous robotics if it gets out of control and thinks it is is unstoppable.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
