How Leading Organizations Extend Ethernet and PoE

Every case study on this page started with the same problem: a camera, controller, sensor or building that sat far beyond Ethernet’s 328-foot (100-meter) limit. Wireless was unreliable or insecure, and fiber was too costly or disruptive. Louisiana State Penitentiary (Angola) replaced unreliable wireless bridges with Ethernet Extenders across its 18,000-acre campus. The US Postal Service extended PoE surveillance cameras up to 2,500 feet at post offices. American Alarm Company placed Axis PTZ cameras more than 500 feet out to secure a major port. MER Group extended IP camera coverage across public parks in Israel without installing new control boxes. Access 24 Storage linked two buildings 1,000 feet apart in a matter of hours, and automotive repair shops use PoE extenders to protect vehicles, tools and fuel.

NYSE Euronext, where data center latency is measured in nanoseconds, uses Enable-IT extenders in its network. United Health Services brought PoE into its operating rooms. At its crash test proving grounds, General Motors streams real-time sensor data from crash test dummies over a flexible tether. Princess Cruises uses existing shipboard wiring to improve passenger connectivity.
